Field Pull Support

Field Pull copies recordings from a USB field recorder onto your iPhone. It has been built and tested with the Teenage Engineering TP-7.

Getting started

  1. Put the recorder in MTP mode. On the TP-7, follow the file-transfer steps in the TP-7 guide.
  2. Connect it to the iPhone with a USB-C to USB-C cable. The iPhone needs a USB-C port. Lightning iPhones with a camera adapter are untested.
  3. Keep Field Pull in the foreground. It connects on its own and lists the recordings.
  4. Tap play on a WAV to preview it. Drag the waveform to scrub.
  5. Tap rows to tick them, then Save. The files copy to the iPhone first, then the Files sheet opens and you choose the folder.

Common questions

The app stays on the waiting screen

Almost always the recorder is not in MTP mode. In its normal mode the TP-7 appears to the iPhone as an audio and MIDI interface, which Field Pull deliberately ignores. Unplug, enter MTP mode, plug back in.

The recorder dropped out of MTP mode

The TP-7 leaves MTP mode whenever the connection closes, for example when you switch away from Field Pull for a while or unplug. Enter MTP mode again and reconnect. This is the recorder's behaviour, not something the app controls.

Why does the Files sheet say Save rather than letting me pick a folder first?

Field Pull copies the files to the iPhone first so you can see progress and cancel, then hands them to Apple's Files sheet. Its button reads Save, and you browse to the folder you want. Several files save together into that folder. The temporary copies are removed afterwards.

Preview does not work on an MP3

Preview streams WAV files only. MP3s and other formats can still be copied.

Can I use it with the OP-1 field, OP-XY or TX-6?

They use the same transfer protocol, so they may well work, but only the TP-7 has been tested. If you try one, the support address below would like to hear how it went.

Does anything leave my phone?

No. The app contains no networking code. Recordings go from the recorder to the folder you choose and nowhere else. See the privacy policy.
